Milk Bottles

These are so pretty. I found them in SM Makati and couldn't resist buying them. A set of 3 glass bottles for Php300, I thought it was a good deal. Although, it is partly nostalgia.

Singapore Food and the 2015 Formula 1 Night Race

Hainanese Chicken Rice
Found myself in Singapore again this year, this time for the Singapore Grand Prix. It is a wonderful experience, and a proper bucket list item, I believe. The event is so well-managed, the venue definitely scenic, and the entertainment lineup is megawatt-powerhouse awesome: Pharrell, Spandau Ballet, Maroon 5, and Bon Jovi. It is an F1 race and a music festival all rolled into one. That is why, despite my squeamishness about air travel, I am so glad I agreed to go. Also, I am quite smitten by the Singapore food scene.

Sprung Onion

Look at what sprouted in my plant box!

Been flexing my light green thumb. I got a plastic plant box, a pair of plastic pots, and some organic soil. Then I bought some plants from the local plant nursery. I bought a fruiting kalamansi plant and stuck it in one of the pots and the other pot housed a lemon seedling that I got from my brother. The plant box is where I put my Japanese Peace Lily. My inspiration for the peace lily is Hot Fuzz. If you don't get the connection, look up the movie Hot Fuzz and you'll see. A pair of white flowering plants whose name I've already forgotten flank the lily on both sides of the plant box.

Mixed Espetada Royale at Don Limone

Mixed Espetada Royale
Serves 4-5
Php2,995
My friends, Gen, Pepper, and Faye wanted to go on a little road trip to Tagaytay for quite some time so finally last Sunday, we went. Gen, probably because I talked about it a lot, suggested we sup at Don Limone. I said absolutely, of course.

Kani Fried Rice

Kani Fried Rice
This happened when I wanted to make traditional Japanese fried rice and I did not have the rest of the ingredients on hand. It has since been a family favorite.

Some Retail Therapy and Dinner in a Food Court

Simply Lemon Lemonade
22 oz.

Php49
Today, I did some shopping. I found this pair of high-waist flared-bottom jeans that I've been pining for, at Mango no less, and I couldn't believe it cost less than a thousand pesos. Special price, the cashier tells me when she recognized the disbelief in my face as I paid for the jeans. That is just perfect, I tell her, and she hands over what is perhaps my 87th pair of jeans. After Mango, I meandered over to Zara. I aimlessly browsed through the racks and picked up a few pieces to try on, you know, as part of my retail therapy. (Yes, it's a thing.)

Peri-Peri Chicken by Nando's

Peri-Peri Chicken
That night when we were in CBTL Starmall Prima, mother and I came from Rustan's Supermarket - Evia. We did some grocery shopping and this interesting bottle of peri-peri sauce caught my eye. I've always enjoyed peri-peri chicken in that restaurant in Greenhills - Promenade and I thought, wouldn't it be nice if I could make that at home? That is why I didn't think twice about getting a bottle of Nando's Peri-Peri Sauce (in Garlic), even if it might be a bit pricey for the size- Php200 for 125 grams of sauce.

Don Limone Special Menu for October

Sem break season is here. Time to experience Mediterranean Spain through the region's classic cuisine.

View details
Don't worry, you don't need to travel to Barcelona for this. Don Limone Grill is just in Tagaytay City, Cavite. Although, the restaurant does look like a beautiful Mediterranean villa.

Scenes from the Summer Send Off Block Party 2015

Block Party Summer Send Off 2015

I had a great time at the 2015 Summer Send Off Block Party in Ayala Alabang Village last June with my pals, Gen and Jeff. There were lots of unique and quirky knickknacks on sale and yummy food (those Kashi Maki from Pink Wasabi were divine!) and drink options strewn about Makiling Park. Also, there were myriad activities that both kids and kids at heart could really get into. (There was even a little petting zoo where you get to pet a sheep. Understand, in a tropical country, seeing a sheep is like seeing a unicorn.)

CBTL at Starmall Prima

Finally got to visit the new Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at Starmall Prima, Daang Hari. Not to drive through but to actually sit there and have tea with my mother. There are quite a few things to love about the new CBTL branch.

Mitsuyado Sei-Men Fix

Miso Tsukemen
Php280, regular
Mitsuyado Sei-Men The House of Tsukemen is my go to restaurant of late. My mom loves it here, too, as she particularly loves the hot service tea. Addicted is the word she used. My lil ol' mother is addicted to Mitsuyado's hot tea.

Brazil! Brazil! October Food Fest

Brazil! Brazil! is the restaurant that introduced me to one of my favorite dining experiences of all time: Brazilian Churrasco. There used to be branches of this restaurant in Powerplant Mall and in Serendra. Just recently, I learned that they have since relocated to Greenfield District in Mandaluyong. A bit far from where I live, but I think the trek will be worth it, especially with their promo, October Food Fest.

There's nothing like a big hunk of roasted beef to inspire awe in a hungry crowd.

A Lovely Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake

I recently bought a fluted bundt pan. I've always wanted one but for some reason whenever I'd go to the store thinking to get one I always ended up a mini bundt pan (I have two). Now I have one full-sized bundt pan. Well, 9.33 inches to be exact.

The Heart of a Coconut Tree

Ubod is the fleshy edible heart of a coconut tree. Flavor and texture-wise, it kind of reminds me of singkamas. When it is available in the market, my mom would get a sizable chunk of it and we would have Lumpiang Ubod at home. It is usually the fresh version that makes an appearance on the dining table but it is also delicious fried. Fried, in fact, is my favorite version.

Bottled Dulce De Leche

I spied this classic decadent sweet on the shelf at S&R and I could not stop getting one for myself.

Some kind of adobo

Adobong sitaw makes me feel healthy, like I gave my stomach a much needed break. When I feel I've eaten too much the day before I would ask my mom to prepare adobong sitaw for lunch. It makes for a light meal but is satisfying enough to tide me over until dinner.

Tahong, simply.

When they are in season, we will have tahong to our hearts' content. The green mussel is such a lovely shellfish. Its colors are so vivid- from its ombre-like brown to bright green shell to its peach and carmine flesh- if I didn't know better I would think it's poisonous.

Not So Instant Pancit Canton

Here's an old family recipe for Pancit Canton that really lets you get in there and work your inner domestic diva. You know, for when you're feeling too fancy for instant pancit canton and a bilao of pancit canton ordered from your favorite panciteria just does not seem to cut it.

Mabuhay Germany 2015: See you there!

“We know that Filipinos love to eat, and this certain passion for food is a trait shared by Germans as well. In Mabuhay Germany 2015, we are introducing German cuisine to more Filipinos, allowing them to experience the country’s culture one bite at a time. Since there will be no entrance fee, everyone can come freely and have a slice of German food and culture for the whole weekend,”

Finding The Girl + The Bull

Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Available only every friday + saturday, 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
A few days ago, my friend booked us a table at The Girl + The Bull in BF Paranaque. She tells me she's heard some pretty good reviews about the restaurant and I too have read about it online so I was pretty stoked about finally getting to try the food there.

Cheat Day Worthy Breakfast

I almost forgot about this. Last Independence Day roadtrip, before we ever got to Marcia Adams' Restaurant, our first stop was Breakfast at Antonio's, where we had, you guessed it-- breakfast. I had a lot of memorable meals here and my heart sank when it closed a while back. Fortunately, it has since reopened its doors and with it a refreshed look and a new menu.

German Food Galore: A Mabuhay Germany Preview

Fraulein's Sausages
I attended a food tasting yesterday for the Mabuhay Germany event this coming February. The food tasting event was held at the Doehle Haus building in Makati. Before anything else, let me just say that that building was one of the reasons why I was so excited about the invitation. Everytime I pass by Buendia, I could not help but marvel at this handsome deep red building. I find it so extraordinary and imposing compared to most buildings I see in the Metro. So when I got the opportunity to see it from the inside, I snatched it.

A Fish Too Pretty to Eat

One of the dishes that make frequent appearances on our dining table is paksiw na bisugo. When I was a little girl I remember thinking what a waste to cook such a pretty fish, this bisugo. Baby pink and a bright yellow streak running along its underbelly, how can that be not pretty? Why are we not keeping it in an aquarium instead? For some reason, I found it more acceptable to eat the gray-colored ones. Gray fish is for eating. Pink fish, no.

Rosalie's Suman Pinipig with Buko

Rosalie's Suman Pinipig with Buko is the bane of my recent existence. See after the holiday food binge, I try my darnedest to go on a diet like any normal human being. My idea of diet though only goes so far as cutting down on rice or not having any if I can avoid it.

Chopseuy with patola anyone?

We have a trellis in the backyard where a healthy vine of patola (luffa) grows. It's a seasonal plant I think, because one day it will fruit like crazy and before you know it, the vine withers and dies.

Piniritong Lumpiang Gulay

Ever since I can remember, in our house, we normally have lumpiang gulay the day after we have lumpiang hubad for lunch. Lumpiang hubad (naked springroll) is just your lumpia filling (sauteed vegetables really) plain and simple. So the next day, all that needs to be done is to roll up the leftover filling in lumpia wrappers.

Softdrink Replacement

I've heard about the lemon detox and all the buzz around it. How it helps you lose weight. How it makes your skin glow. How it boosts your immunity and metabolism. All the good stuff. Not to be confused with a diet, the lemon detox is really more of a cleanse I guess, a way to kick-start your actual diet. Whatever the lemon detox is, I was sold on it. Partially. Partially sold on it. See, I am not a big diet person or one to fast (Have you seen the stuff I eat?) but somehow drinking a lot of lemon juice appeals to me. I love lemons. When life give you lemons, I say let it.

Fat and Happy at Banzai!

Banzai is a Japanese-themed buffet at the By the Bay area of SM Mall of Asia. It's located, rather relevantly if I may say so myself, in between two other famous all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants, La Fiesta and Buffet 101.
