A Valentine Greeting

Mocha Chocolate Chip Cupcakes with White Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Here's a thought for Valentine's. These are actually supposed to be plain Mocha Cupcakes. I just threw in chocolate chips in the batter at the last minute. Then I frosted them with White Chocolate Buttercream. I don't know where I got the candy heart sprinkles, but I had them and I dosed the cupcakes with them. Pretty neat. Delicious, too.

Don Limone, Beyond Beautiful Cheesecakes

New York Cheesecake
The good people behind Dana Bella's Oven have opened a new restaurant in Aguirre Avenue (a thriving mecca for unique hole in the wall dining places South of Manila) called Don Limone. Together with our ahem food-loving friends, we were invited to visit the new place and try out the new menu.

Meatball Al Forno
A dozen of oven roasted meatballs in spicy Pico De Gallo salsa

Hummus En Fuego
Roasted garlic hummus topped with hot pepper infused

extra virgin olive oil, herbs, olives, cheese and served with hot focaccia
Roasted Potatoes & Cheddar
Oven roasted potatoes with lean bacon, onion, and cheddar cheese
Served with side of aioli and pomodoro sauce

Caesar Salad
Fresh Romaine lettuce, blended with classic Caesar dressing,
accented with imported Parmegiano-Regiano cheese

and house-made herb croutons
Caprese Diablo
Creamy feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, lightly seasoned mixed greens,

black olives, topped with Madriana balsamic vinegar,
and hot pepper infused extra virgin olive oil with basil

traditional beef meatballs and lean bacon, blended with pomodoro sauce
and melted Mozzarella

Pollo Pesto
Roasted chicken breast, mushroom, and black olives,
folded in home-made pesto sauce with grated Parmesan cheese

Boneless white fish fillet, local mussels, garlic, and fresh herbs,
steamed in spicy pomodoro-red wine broth

Pomodoro Sauce, Basil, Mozzarella

El Greco
Extra Virgin Olive oil, Feta Cheese, Pesto, Cranberry, Caramelized Onion,
fresh herbs, Mozzarella, and a drizzle of Don Limone's Hot Honey

Lingua Limone
Slow braised beef tongue in brandy mushroom cream sauce,
served with Pomodoro Risotto and Hot Honey-glazed Carrots

We loved the layout and overall ambiance of Don Limone. The design- both of the interior and al fresco area- is chic but nevertheless very cozy. It is a quiet place to have a drink, definitely more relaxing than the many bars found along Aguirre. Most importantly, the food is good, and despite the fact that the food comes in generous servings, it still is easy on the budget. Not to mention easy on the eyes, too, as Don Limone obviously gives a lot of importance to plating and presentation as they do to the quality and flavor of the food.

Alla Bismark
Pomodoro Sauce, Roasted Potato, Lean Bacon,
Sunny Side-up Egg, Mozzarella

The Alla Bismark Pizza is a must-try. We were all in agreement in that just by reading from the menu, it would not be on the top of our to-order list. Potatoes and egg on a pizza? But lo and behold, it was a runaway favorite for the night. Who would have guessed that potatoes and egg on a pizza would taste so good. Admittedly though, it is not for anyone on a diet. The Alla Bismark is as filling as it sounds.

Roasted Chicken
Unique flavored tender roasted chicken
in Don Limone's special herbs and spices,
served with Lemon Roasted Potatoes and Hot Honey-glazed Carrots

The Roasted Chicken is also a big favorite. The chicken is juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful while the roasted potatoes served with it seems to have soaked up all the wonderful flavors of the chicken making it so addicting to nibble on. The honey-glazed carrots holds its own as well giving the huge meal a delightfully healthy touch.

Frutti di Mare
Seafood Risotto. Aromatic saffron infused rice mixed with

sauteed shrimp, fish, calamari, mussels, diced carrots, green olives,
and fresh tomatoes. Circled with creamy seafood sauce

Judging from the Frutti di Mare Risotto alone, Don Limone certainly does not scrimp on the quality and quantity of its ingredients. Talk about real value for money.

Tiramisu Cheesecake
And how can I forget about the cheesecake? Still as wonderful as when I first met it at Dana Bella's Oven, in Don Limone, it is now available in many different flavors. And the best part, Don Limone is tireless in conjuring up more and more versions of this specialty dessert.

As for the service, it is prompt and very friendly. I do believe that the staff plays a major part in giving Don Limone that homey, welcoming vibe. All in all, for me and my friends, Don Limone has become our new favorite place to hangout and unwind after a long work week.
