Authentic Italian at Darwin's Tavern
The last time we were in Subic, we discovered Darwin's Tavern, an obscure restaurant that serves crazy good authentic Italian cuisine. The management is delightfully welcoming and genuinely friendly and the place nice and cozy. It's a perfect getaway or rest stop when in Subic.I say obscure because it is a long drive from Venezia Hotel, where we stayed, and it is practically in the middle of the rain forest.
I say crazy good because their food is crazy good.
I am amazed at the available flavors of their thin crust pizzas and pasta. They also have a well-stocked bar. What's more amazing is the value at which I can enjoy good food and libation there. By the end of the night, I have decided that Darwin's Tavern is the best place in Subic to get stuffed with authentic Italian food and sloshed on gin and tonics.Darwin's Tavern is a part of a larger facility known as Building 2006, which was a former administrative and command quarters of the US Navy Marines in Subic. It has since been converted into an eco-tourism visitor orientation facility and center for environmental conservation awareness of the Subic Bay Protected Area. The facility also serves as a hometel or dormitory where you can stay when you do get sloshed on gin and tonics at Darwin's Tavern.

Cheese Burger and Wedge Country Fries by Crave Burger Restaurant
About a month ago, I saw a Crave Burger Restaurant open along Tropical Avenue in BF Homes Las Piñas (near Southville International School). Parking meant parking on the curb, which I am not too fond of, so I just drove past it most of the time. A few days later, I saw another branch set to open in BF Resort Las Piñas. That branch had parking so I thought finally, I would be able to get to try their burger. So last Monday, the branch looking all set, I parked right in front. There appeared to be customers inside after all. To be sure though, I asked one of the workmen there if the branch is already open. Just my luck, he said not yet. (The people inside apparently weren't customers after all.) So again, I drove on. My craving for a burger growing by the day.
Today, at last, I got my Crave burger (from the BF Homes Las Piñas branch). Fortunately I was not disappointed. I ordered the Crave Cheese Burger (Php130), Wedge Country Fries (Php85) and for my drink, I picked Blue Lemonade (Php60). The burger was actually pretty good. It is not wanting in the customary lettuce, onion, pickle, and tomatoes. The patty itself is very flavorful and the sesame bun nice and soft. It is a generous-sized burger and for a late lunch, it was a life saver. Love the fries, too, which is freshly fried when served, so I recommend fighting the urge to dig in right away lest you get mouth burns.
